About Us

Hello, I'm Emma, the potter behind Brick Kiln Pottery!

Nestled in the south Norfolk countryside you will find my pottery studio where I create handcrafted tableware for everyday use and unique slab built ceramic vessels. I discovered the love of clay later in my life. I've always had an interest in art and design but it wasn't until my first block of lessons, back in 2020, that my passion for clay was ignited.. and I haven't looked back since!

My inspiration comes from the love of the North Norfolk coast and the textures, feelings that I absorb when I'm there. The more I visit, the more I discover and my mind works to develop design and textural ideas to keep us at one with nature. I enjoy producing minimalist pieces with a nostalgic rustic finish.

Creating ceramic pieces is a very in-depth process, beginning with choosing the clay which is suitable for the use and finish you desire, creating by hand or on the wheel, drying at the correct speed, trimming at the best time to neaten edges and add detail, bisque firing to around 1000oC in the kiln, sanding any rough areas, choosing your glaze design and then firing again at an even higher temperature. This all has taken hours of practice, research and of course failures. One thing great about failures is that we learn from them so we embrace them!

I would love nothing more to know you were enjoying my pieces of work in your homes, allowing you to connect with that same feeling of nostalgia.

I look forward to sharing my passion with you.
